8 Acres Shiraz
Wine
Tyrrell's 8 Acres Shiraz is sourced from an ancient block of vines planted in 1892. It is located right beside the driveway up to the winery at Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley.
Both the 8 Acres Block and its neighbour the 4 Acres Block lie on soils of deep red clay over limestone. However the 8 Acres vines run north to south, perpendicular to 4 Acres: a small variation that makes all the difference to the wine style.
The fruit is handpicked and sorted in the vineyard. It is then fermented in open top vats with a small whole bunch inclusion. Post ferment, the wine matures for 14 months in a one year old 2,700 litre French oak cask.
Bright purple, Tyrrell's 8 Acre Shiraz is a medium to full bodied, juicy and dark fruited wine. Though approachable, its underlying structure and length reflect its pedigree.
Produced only in outstanding years. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
